2009 Coal Miner XC OMA
Team Off Camber Racing/Fastway/Klim

The Off-Camber, Fastway Performance, Pro Moto Billet, Klim Gear, Rekluse Clutch, Yamaha Race Team headed for southern Ohio, in the small town of Rio Grande, home of the original Bob Evans Restaurant and farm and the Coal Miner XC OMA. The race course was the usual tight, knarly, with some muddy woods, but mostly hot and dusty. The track was fairly long at this race, almost 10 miles, but the laps were fast, less than 28 minutes for most.

The team consisted of Mandi Mastin, Duane Conner and Morgan Moss, special guest rider, Duane's son, Josh Conner and our usual guest member Jason Thomas from the Andrews Monster Energy Yamaha Team. The most of crew road practice on Saturday and found it interesting, once again, how many different lines were beginning to develop, but everyone thought that it would be a fun race, even though it was extremely hot, well into the 90's.

Mandi started 1st in her class and end 1st for the day. Mandi rode 5 laps and ended up 80th Overall. She said that she had a lot of fun and really in enjoyed the race. Mandi is currently first in the Overall points for the year.

Duane got off to a good start, but had trouble settling into a groove until about mid-race. Duane rode 30-39 A and really did not feel any fire until after he pitted and Team Manager Dave told him to quit messing with these guys and beat them. After that Duane went on a charge and ended up winning this class by more than 2 minutes and finishing an awesome 17th Overall for the day. Duane has been fighting a tired YZ250F and hopes to get the bike back into race condition soon.

Morgan Moss signed up in the Open B Class and was on a rampage, after DNFing the last GNCC. He was on a mission to show the other boys that he could win big and that he did. Morgan won his class by more than 18 minutes, was high point B by more than 3 minutes, passed into most of the A classes and some of the Pros and ended up and amazing 16th Overall for the day. Duane said Morgan went around him like he was standing still, Duane tucked in behind the kid and they both moved to the front together, like good team mates should. Morgan was fired up to ride with Duane and this was the second time they have finished together in the Overalls. Morgan was still not satisfied with his ride and is looking forward to the next race to improve his results. Yeeks!

Jason Thomas started mid-pack off the line and fought all day to stay in 4th. Jason was sick from the cold GNCC, but gutted it out to a well deserved 4th in Class and 4th Overall. Jason is looking forward to getting a good start and challenging for the lead and winning an OMA in the future.

Josh Conner rode the 50cc 4-6 year old class in the morning and did 6 laps to win his class at his first OMA of the year. Josh got a slow start, since he was little scared to race at first, but after taking the holeshot, Josh got in race mode and lead the entire race.

The other Fastway riders and friends had a good weekend also:, Open A was Zach Klamfoth 13th Overall, Daniel Janus 19th Overall, Derrick Spangler was 26th Overall and Jeff Fredette finished 29th Overall.

Mandi, Randy, Morgan, Duane, Team Manager David and Englishman Rudy Austin are all headed to Millfield, Ohio for the John Penton GNCC.
