Race Report
Round 5 of the GNCC Series
Team Off Camber Racing/Pro Moto Billet/Fastway

Round 5 of the GNCC Series is held in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. This is one of the oldest race locations on the schedule and there is a reason for that. Loretta Lynn’s is liked by many people for different reasons. Some like it just because the facility is amazing and the property is beautiful. The race is located in the valley of gorgeous rolling hills with a river running down the edge. The river accommodates people on the warm spring days with crystal clear water to cool off in or to do a little fishing in. Others like coming to Loretta’s Ranch because the track and terrain is amazing. Rain or shine, the trails always seem to be fun filled, with a wide range of open fast sections and tight technical trails. Either way, these are some of the reasons Racer Productions has chosen to keep this amazing facility on the schedule for many years.

Team Off Camber Racing, Pro Moto Billet/Fastway Performance, Klim Gear, Rekluse Clutch, Yamaha Race Team was represented this weekend by Mandi Mastin in the Women’s Class and Randy Mastin in the Masters A class. Friday night brought a trenching downfall of rain, soaking the track and the pits. But on Saturday, the skies clear out and the ATV’s enjoyed a great day of riding with a slightly muddy track. Sunday morning brought dark clouds and the anticipation of rain. Luckily, the rains held out for the entire day until just after the afternoon Pro race was done. This provided the Sunday bike racers with an almost perfect track condition and ideal tractions.

Again this week, Women’s class started on the first row. Each week different classes are chose for the $100 holeshot award. This week, the featured class was the Women’s class. Mandi Mastin nailed the holeshot on her Pro Moto Billet/Fastway Performances/Klim/Rekluse YZ125. Starting out the day just the way should finish it. “I was really excited to come here this weekend and do well. I always love this track, but I always seem to have problems here and something happens. I don’t remember the last time that I won this event, so I’m really excited about that.” Mandi’s win this weekend gives her a 13 point lead in the series.

In the Masters A class, Randy Mastin had a rough weekend. Off the start, Randy had a good start and headed into the woods in 2 nd just behind Kim Mahncke. Within the first couple of miles the top 4 riders changed positions a couple of times. At mile 3, all 4 riders head up a gnarly uphill with many different lines and Randy made it to the top first. Randy was able to pull a gap between his competitors and was starting to feel confident about his day, until just a couple miles from the finish on lap one when a mistake cost him to end his day. “I was coming down this real fast downhill with rain breaks in it. I hit one of the breaks and when I landed the front end washed out and I was like a rag doll rolling down the rocky hill. When I went to get up, I was really dazed and dizzy, I fell a couple of times trying to get my bike up off the ground. When I finally got the bike up and going I headed up the trail, realizing when bikes started coming at me, that I was going the wrong way on the trail! That is when I turned around and headed for the pits. My head was pounding, I think it was the first thing to hit the ground and took much of the blunt.” Randy made a safe call and called it a day after his miraculous crash. Due to the DNF this weekend, Randy slipped back into 2 nd place for the series. But at the end of the season his class gets 4 throw-away rounds, so he is still sitting in a good position with the championship still in reach.

This next weekend Team Off Camber Racing will be headed in 2 different directions. Randy will head south to Millerstown, Kentucky for the 2 nd round of the OMA Series.
